127 former QMJHL players pursuing careers in CIS
Published on January 25, 2011 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 - A recent analysis of Canadian University rosters in Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces shows that 127 former players are currently pursuing their education and their hockey careers at a wide range of Universities.
"Each year, several players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League make good use of their major junior experience," said Natacha Llorens, the QMJHL Educational Advisor. "We are witnessing substantial increases in the number of players that use their major junior internship as a stepping stone to Canadian Universities; from 106 in 2008-09 to 114 last year and 127 this year. From a purely academic standpoint, the progress which has been made by the League and its teams to optimize the learning environment has certainly played a significant part. With tuition and books paid for by the clubs as well as bursaries which can now reach up to $20,000 per alumni, today's major junior hockey player has the tools he needs to reach his potential on the ice and in the classroom."
