Published on October 4, 2012 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
TORONTO - The Canadian Football League and McClelland & Stewart announced today that 100 Grey Cups: This is Our Game, authored by Stephen Brunt, is now available in book stores across the country.
In this official celebration of the 100th Grey Cup, which will be played in Toronto on Sunday, November 25, 2012, bestselling author Stephen Brunt captures all the pride, triumph and heartbreak that have marked the path that the trophy and the country have taken together.
"The 100th Grey Cup is not only a chance to celebrate our great game and league, it's an opportunity to celebrate something that is uniquely, passionately and unapologetically ours," said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon. "And through the words of Stephen Brunt and iconic images of our game, our fans can reflect on our proud history while we start to write the next chapter of our league's bright future."
All the legendary teams from Canadian Football League lore are chronicled: from the first Grey Cup win captured by the University of Toronto in 1909, through to the last B.C. Lions' triumph on home turf in 2011, and all the dynasties, bad bounces, incredible stories and unforgettable moments in between. Fully illustrated with rare and never-before-seen photos and ephemera from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame's archives, this book captures what has made our game and our league such an integral part of who we are as a country.
"Canadian football is a pure product of our country and of our culture," said Brunt. "It is our game, not someone else's, played under our rules on our field. Somehow, across the decades, for more than a century, it has retained its special character, even as so much in sport and elsewhere has become homogenized."
Brunt, a columnist and broadcaster with Rogers Sportsnet following a distinguished career in Canadian newspapers including The Globe and Mail, is Canada's premier sportswriter and commentator. His most recent book is the #1 national bestselling Searching for Bobby Orr. He is also the author of Facing Ali: The Opposition Weighs In; The Way it Looks from Here: Contemporary Canadian Writing on Sports; Mean Business: The Rise and Fall of Shawn O'Sullivan; Second to None: The Roberto Alomar Story, and Diamond Dreams: 20 Years of Blue Jays Baseball. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario.
In late October, Brunt is scheduled to make appearances at bookstores in Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton and Calgary to discuss 100 Grey Cups: This is Our Game. Brunt will also be joined by a Grey Cup champion in each city to discuss their Grey Cup experiences.
