Amsterdam Mohawks News Release

Former Amsterdam Mohawks outfielder Tillman Pugh was recently added to the New York Mets spring training roster. Tillman was a key member of the 2009 team that won a championship and dominated the NYCBL for the second half of the season, winning its last 13 games and 25 of its last 27. For the season, Pugh hit .276 with 4 home runs and 8 stolen bases.

Tillman came to Amsterdam by way of Gateway CC in Arizona and Arizona State University. He had been previously drafted twice by the Seattle Mariners but in 2010 was a 15th round selection of the Mets. In his first professional game, however, he was struck in the face by a pitch and required surgery and missed most of the rest of the season. In 2011, his first full season, he moved within the Mets organization two different times but enjoyed a solid first professional season, hitting .275 with 4 homeruns.

He joins Hunter Pence and Austin Hyatt (Phillies), Brendan Harris (Rockies), Val Pascucci (Mets), and Cord Phelps (Indians) as former Mohawks in Major League camps.
