Pensacola pulled within three games of league-leading Fort Worth, beating San Angelo 6-2. LF Nestor Smith hit a two-run homer in the first for the Pelicans, and DH Larry Bethea added his own in the fifth. Santos Hernandez didn't allow an earned run in his six innings of work, striking out five to collect his fourth win of the season. CF Evan Cherry had three hits for the Colts.
SHREVEPORT 14, EL PASO 9 @ Shreveport, La. Time: 2:52 ATT: 960 W: Neomar Flores (4-3) L: Trevor Marcotte (0-1) S: None HR: EP - John Schmitz (1), SHR - Chad Gambill 2(8)
DH Chad Gambill powered the Sports to a 14-9 win over El Paso, homering twice and going 3-for-5 with three RBIs from the cleanup spot. The Sports had a well-rounded night offensively, garnering a hit from every starter, racking up 19 in all. LF Mike Willis set the table and cleaned it from the leadoff spot, going 4-for-5 with two runs and four driven in. Neomar Flores picked up his fourth win despite giving up nine earned runs on eight hits in an otherwise impressive start. The newly-acquired Trevor Marcotte took the loss, allowing three earned runs in a third of an inning. LF John Schmitz homered for the Diablos.
JACKSON 7, COASTAL BEND 1 @ Robstown, Texas. Time: 2:46 ATT: 1,394 W: Bo Edmiston (2-2) L: Elliott Shaw (1-4) S: None HR: None
LF Selwyn Langaigne was 4-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs to lead Jackson past Coastal Bend 7-1. A three-run rally in the third and a four-run rally in the ninth- keyed by Langaigne's two-run single- put the game out of reach for the Senators. Bo Edmiston picked up the win, allowing just one run over five and two-thirds innings. 3B Carlos Brackley was 2-for-3 for Jackson. Elliott Shaw was solid, allowing three runs over six innings while striking out eight, but dropped his record to 1-4 with the loss.
EDINBURG 3, FORT WORTH 2 @ Edinburg, Texas. Time: 2:35 ATT: 2,211 W: Kevin Hull (3-2) L: Kevin Lynn (8-1) S: Steve Wilkerson (12) HR: None
Edinburg found a way to slow down Fort Worth, getting the best of a pitchers duel, 3-2. Kevin Hull allowed just two runs over six innings, faring slightly better than Fort Worth's Kevin Lynn, who allowed three runs over six and a third, dropping his record to 8-1. Both bullpens were outstanding, as the two combined for four and two-thirds scoreless innings. Bryan Heaston, Luis Marcano and Steve Wilkerson were especially impressive for Edinburg, striking out all but two of the nine batters they retired, with Wilkerson fanning the side in the ninth. Offensively, DH Lale Esquivel led the Roadrunners, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
