Wingnuts Mittelstaedt Named Player of the Week

WICHITA, Kans. - T.J. Mittelstaedt was named the American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week of August 15-21 the league announced Monday, giving the Wichita Wingnuts their second weekly honor of the 2016 season.
Mittelstaedt is coming off of a week in which he hit safely in all seven of the Wingnuts games, and posted multi-hit efforts in five of the seven. Overall, the former Long Beach State Dirtbag went 12-for-24 (.500) for the week, with three home runs, a double, two triples, and 10 RBIs.
The former Milwaukee Brewers farmhand started off his week with a bang, hitting a two-run inside-the-park home run in a 3-0 shutout victory over Kansas City in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday, August 16. He followed that up with a three-run inside-the-park home run against the T-Bones the next day, in another Wichita victory.
Since hitting for the cycle against Joplin on July 23, Mittelstaedt is 36-for-98 (.367) at the plate, and has hiked his season batting average from .265, the lowest point since the opening week of the season, to .297. He has been especially adept at driving in runs as of late, having collected 14 RBIs in his last eight games to take over the club lead and move into third in the American Association, with 66 runs batted in for the year.
The Wingnuts continue their six-game road trip tonight with the opener of a three-game set at CHS Field against the St. Paul Saints. First pitch is slated for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
Wichita then returns to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Friday night to begin their final homestand of the regular season against the Texas AirHogs at 7:05.
