Williams' 32 Not Enough for Legends

MISSISSAUGA, ON- The Texas Legends (12-11) opened the 2017 NBA Development League Showcase with a 97-113 loss to the Santa Cruz Warriors (14-12) Saturday in Canada.

CJ Williams had a season-high 32 points to lead the Legends, knocking down 11-of-16 and 5-of-9 from outside. Manny Harris finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, and AJ Hammons grabbed a game-high 11 boards.

The Warriors had seven players finish with double-digits led by Dennis Clifford (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Scott Wood (17 points, 3 rebounds). Phil Pressey had a game-high 14 assists with 16 points.

The first quarter stayed close with five ties and finished with both teams even at 23. Santa Cruz picked up the pace in the second, taking a 12-point lead, but Texas finished the quarter with an 11-0 run from Williams and newest Legend DeJuan Blair to make it 47-48 at the break.

After a cold first half, Harris came out of the locker room firing, knocking down the first four points to give Texas the lead. Wood responded with a three-ball and the Warriors resumed the lead, carrying it through the final minutes.

The Legends will finish the 2017 Showcase Sunday at 2pm CT against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The game will be broadcast live on NBATV.
