Nashville Venom News Release

NASHVILLE (May 13, 2015) - After a week off, the Nashville Venom (4-2) is chomping at the bit to get back to action. Winners of the three in row, the 2014 PIFL Champions have found themselves back in the thick of things for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They are looking up in the standings to a Lehigh Valley Steelhawk (5-2) team that they defeated earlier this season and the Columbus Lions (5-2) The Lions will be in town Sunday to try to avenge a loss to Nashville earlier in the season.

"They are an explosive team so we will have our hands full," said Venom head coach Billy Back. (QB Casey) Katz has been on fire all season. (Terrance) Ebagua has been tough to deal with too. They have weapons across the board. Plus, their offensive line is said to be the best in our league. We did a good job against them so I am sure they want to make a statement. The streak is nice but we just want to be 1-0 this week."

The Venom defense played great late in the first victory. They only gave up a lone touchdown in the second half. After falling down three scores for the second time in the game, Venom DB Jaime Graham (Whites Creek H.S./Vanderbilt) forced turnovers on three consecutive defense possessions. The Venom evidently tied the score and DB/LB Will Johnson (Pearl-Cohn H.S./Tennessee Tech) picked off a pass in the final minute to set up Christian Reed for an 18 yard field goal as time expired for the victory 58-55 victory.

The victory was the Lion's first loss of the season. WR Jordan Jolly caught 10 passes for 220 yards and four TDs earning him PIFL Offensive Player of the Week. McCullum broke two Venom records throwing for 410 yards and eight TDs.

"We got down to them big twice and came back," said Jolly. "We can't do that Sunday. It will be important to start fast. Coming off a bye week our timing may be off a bit. We don't want to have to keep digging ourselves out of a hole."

Snake Bites:

Sunday's game will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Both teams will be using pink balls.

Christian Reed was signed back to the team after playing during the bye week in AFL1.

The Venom has re-signed DB Jihad Morris.

At halftime of Sunday's game, fans will be able to participate in a game of Bubble Ball. Any interested will have to pre-register. Go to nashvillevenom.com for more details.
