FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lakeland Flying Tigers edged the Fort Myers Miracle, 5-3, at Hammond Stadium on Tuesday evening.

For the second night in a row, the Flying Tigers plated two runs in the first inning. Lakeland tallied three consecutive hits to start the game. Ben Verlander doubled down the third base line on the first pitch from Miracle starter Keaton Steele. A.J. Simcox drove in Verlander with a single into right center. Mike Gerber followed with a base hit through the right side to put runners at first and third. Steele (4-9) then got Kade Scivicque to roll into a double play, but Simcox scored to push the Lakeland advantage to 2-0.

Lakeland added three runs to the lead in the top of the fifth. Ross Kivett led off with a walk. After Steele struck out Verlander, Simcox hit a fly ball to center field that was lost by Daniel Kihle and dropped for a hit. After a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, Gerber was walked to load the bases. Steele got Scivicque to pop out, but Christin Stewart ripped a 3-2 pitch into the right center gap to clear the bases and give the Flying Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Steele five innings for the Miracle and surrendered five runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Lakeland starter Jeff Thompson hurled seven shutout frames. Allowing just five hits, Thompson (6-4) kept the Miracle off the board with just two walks and five punch outs.

All three Miracle runs on the night came on one swing from LaMonte Wade. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the eighth, Wade hammered an 0-1 change-up from Lakeland reliever Malvin Martinez beyond the drink rails in right field. The ball traveled 384 feet and left the bat at 100 miles per hour on Wade's second home run of the season and the series.

John Curtiss, Michael Theofanopoulos and Nick Anderson each recorded scoreless outings from the Fort Myers bullpen.

The Miracle (49-46, 15-11) and Flying Tigers (41-50, 7-16) wrap up a four-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Randy Rosario (5-6) is set to start for the Miracle against Tyler Alexander (6-6) for Lakeland.

Gates open at 6 p.m. for PokémonGO Night at Hammond Stadium. Fans with the PokémonGO application on their phone can receive a $5 general admission ticket. PokémonGO players are invited to roam the stadium in search of rare Pokémon and can even scour the field for 30 minutes after the game is completed.
