TRENTON, N.J. - With the Trenton Steel embarking on what is hoped to be a Southern Indoor Football League playoff run to a championship, Steel Drive will make its appearance in the city.
The block of Hamilton Avenue outside the Sun National Bank Center will become Steel Drive for the duration of the Indoor Football Team's playoffs at ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Route 129 and Hamilton Avenue.
Under head coach Rod Miller, the Steel, after starting 0-3, rallied to win in eight of its last nine games to finish 8-4 and earn the SIFL playoff spot in its initial season. The Steel will face the defending SIFL champion Columbus Lions at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Georgia city.
"We appreciate the recognition this gives our team in its earning a playoff berth and quest for the SIFL championship,'' said Steel general manager Rich Lisk.
The temporary renaming of the part of Hamilton Avenue adjacent to the Steel's home arena will confirm to thousands of daily passers-by both the success of the club in its first season and its place in among Trenton professional sports success.
Should the Steel emerge victorious vs. Columbus, they will travel to either Albany (Ga.) or Erie for SIFL Semifinal play the weekend of June 25. The SIFL Championship will be played in Lake Charles, La., the weekend of July 2.
