Stealth cage the Dawgz

Wichita, Kan. - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz entered the game with the Wichita Stealth as the af2's leading scoring offense averaging 61.6 points per game, but the 5th ranked Stealth defense held the Yard Dawgz to 35 points and only 276 yards of total offense on their way to a 70-35 victory in front of 3,510 fans at the Kansas Coliseum. The Stealth outscored the Yard Dawgz 35-14 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach. Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Game Jonathan Beasley paced the Stealth. Beasley finished the night 19-of-25 for 269 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Stealth opened the game with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Beasley to Brian Livingston giving them the 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Stealth held the Yard Dawgz to just 31 yards of total offense in the first quarter.

Wichita would open the second quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run by Daren Williams putting them on top 14-0 with 14:54 left in the second quarter. The Yard Dawgz would get on the board on a 51-yard kickoff return by Kris Peters pulling them to within seven at 14-7.

The teams would again trade scores to make it 21-14 with 11:06 left in the first half before the Stealth would go on a tear and reel off twenty-one consecutive points. The Stealth would score on a 17-yard pass from Beasley to Damon Thompson, then on the ensuing drive Stealth lineman Henry Bryant would hit Oklahoma City quarterback Craig Strickland in the end zone causing a fumble that would be picked up in the end zone by Markevius Woods for another Stealth score making it 35-14. The Stealth defense would again stop the Yard Dawgz with three seconds left to give the Stealth the ball back at the Oklahoma City eight-yard line. Beasley would need only one play to find Marc Bacote in the end zone to make it a 42-14 half time lead for the Stealth.

The Stealth defense would again shut down the Yard Dawgz in the second half gaining three more defensive stops and only allowing twenty-one points. The Stealth would outscore the Yard Dawgz 28-21 in the second half to cruise to the win. The 70 points by the Stealth are a season high offensive output topping the previous high of 68 put up against the Green Bay Blizzard on April 24th.

Kris Peters and Al Hunt led the Yard Dawgz. They combined for 13 catches for 234 yards and four touchdowns, three receiving and one kickoff return).

Lineman Henry Bryant who notched all four Wichita sacks, which breaks a Stealth single game record for sacks, led the Stealth defense. Bryant earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Game award for his performance.

Stealth wide receiver/defensive back Marc Bacote earned the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award on the night. Bacote finished the night with seven catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he added one tackle.

The Stealth improves to 7-3 and into a three-way tie atop the Southwest Division with Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Tulsa is in Wichita next week with the division lead up for grabs once again.
