Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Amarillo TX; The Amarillo Dusters (1-6) picked up their first win of the season at the expense of the Corpus Christi Sharks (1-6). The Sharks came into the game feeling as if they were starting to turn the corner. After playing the defending af2 Champion Vipers down to the wire the previous week, it appeared that the team was starting to live up to the potential everyone expected to see in 2009. Unfortunately those positives did not carry over to the game at the Amarillo Civic Center.
The Sharks started the game sluggish turning the ball over three times in their first three possessions giving the Dusters a 14 point lead. Despite the rough start the Sharks found themselves only trailing by 10 at the half.
The second half did not produce much success for either team. Outstanding defense coupled with some offensive miscues resulted in each team finding the end zone only once. The Sharks had an opportunity to make the game interesting in the final minute. After a defensive stop set the Sharks offense up at the Amarillo 16 yard line, three errant passes forced the Sharks to settle for a Nick Gatto field goal attempt. Brandon Hussey was unable to control a high snap and the Sharks turned the ball over on downs allowing Amarillo to come away with the win.
The Sharks will return home for a Memorial Day match up with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-3) on Monday May 25th at 3:05pm.
