
Season High Score Lifts Bighorns Past Vipers

HIDALGO, Texas - The Reno Bighorns (10-10) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (15-8) 152-130 Saturday night at the State Farm Arena.
Three Bighorns players notched 20 points or more against the Vipers including Marcus Williams (25 points), Reggie Hearn (21 points), and JaKarr Sampson (20 points). Reno put 152 points on the board beating their previous season-high of 133 points.
Rio Grande Valley's Tyler Lydon acquired a double-double scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds.
The Bighorns took control of the game early on going on a 13-5 run to lead the Vipers at the 5:25 mark. Reno led Rio Grande Valley for a majority of the first quarter and ended the frame up 35-33.
The teams played a back and forth game in the second quarter where the score would tie nine times and the lead would change eight times. The Vipers held no more than a four point lead on the Bighorns in the frame where Reno was able to head into the locker room on top with a score of 72-70.
Hearn led the Bighorns going into the second half with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
The Bighorns kept the Vipers at bay with a 16-point lead after a defensive rebound by Cody Demps triggered a 14-3 run at the 1:10 mark. Reno led by 13 points heading into the final frame.
The Bighorns kept control of the lead for the entirety of the fourth quarter, which resulted in the tenth Bighorns victory of the season, a fifth consecutive win and a season high score of 152 points.
Reno will travel to Southaven, Miss. to take on the Hustle on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 5:00PM PT.
