Rochester Rhinos to Receive USL Regular Season Championship Trophy September 24

Rochester, NY "" The Rochester Rhinos announced today that the team will receive the United Soccer League (USL) regular season championship trophy in a pre-match ceremony before their final regular season match this Thursday, September 24th at Sahlen's Stadium against Toronto FC II. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 pm. A USL representative will be in Rochester on Thursday to make the presentation.

Fans in attendance this Thursday can have their picture taken with the championship trophy at the Rhinos merchandise booth throughout the match and will also be invited on the field post-match to be part of a team picture with the trophy.

Rochester clinched the USL regular season title on Saturday, September 5th after a 0-0 tie against the Richmond Kickers. The trophy is the first for the Rhinos since 2010 when the team won the USSF (United States Soccer Federation) Division 2 regular season title under Coach Bob Lilley.

The Rhinos/Toronto FC II match was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 12, but steady rainfall throughout the day created unplayable field conditions that were judged to be unfit for competition, thus forcing the postponement. All tickets purchased for the original September 12th fixture date will be honored on Thursday. The Rhinos ask that all fans hold onto their original tickets and use them for the rescheduled match.

By virtue of winning the regular season title, the Rhinos will host at Sahlen's Stadium all USL playoff matches in which they compete. The first Rhinos playoff match will be the Eastern Conference semi-final on Saturday, October 3rd kicking off at 7:05 pm. The Rhinos will face the winner of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal match between the East number four seed New York Red Bulls II and East number five seed Pittsburgh Riverhounds that will be played on Saturday, September 26th at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey kicking off at 5 pm.
