Renegades Roll Past Defenders

TULSA, OK-The Oklahoma Defenders (3-7) indoor football team looked to make it two wins in a row on Saturday night as they hosted the Kansas City Renegades (6-4) at the Tulsa Convention Center. Earlier in the season, the Defenders visited Kansas City and lost to the Renegades 47-54.

This time, the Defenders were unable to overcome the Renegades, and the game ended with a final score of 28-65.

The Oklahoma National Guard and the Defenders recognized Armed Forces Day with Military Appreciation Night. The Defenders wore special jerseys with red, white, and blue camouflage with the core values of the Oklahoma National Guard "Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Honor, Integrity, and Courage" on their backs. The military night also included a special recognition ceremony at halftime with the Navy Operations Support Center of Tulsa.

Throughout the game, the Defenders were plagued by turnovers and an accumulation of mistakes that lead to the 28-65 loss. The Renegades forced five turnovers including two that resulted in immediate scores for the Renegades.

Despite that, the Defenders managed 212 yards of total offense compared to Kansas City's 208. Defenders starting quarterback Carlos Cavanaugh tossed 11 for 18 with two touchdowns. Running back KingJack Washington rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, and wide receiver "Packy" Jones caught the two touchdown passes from Cavanaugh. Defenders quarterback David Bowie scored a touchdown on the ground, hopping one yard to break the plane of the goal line late in the game.

The Defenders defense was led by 8 tackles from linebacker BJ Hodshire, including one sack. Defensive lineman Victor Clore had 5 tackles including one sack and a tackle for a 25-yard loss, and linebacker Andre Morgan contributed 5 tackles.

The loss drops the Oklahoma Defenders to 3-7 on the season and Kansas City improves to 7-4.

The Defenders travel to Omaha this weekend to take on the Beef (7-1) at Ralston Arena on Friday, May 24th, at 7:05pm.
