Cedar Rapids Rampage News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA: The Cedar Rapids Rampage continued a busy week by re-signing midfielders Bobby Hurwitz and Antonio Aguilar for the 2017/18 season.

Hurwitz, 25, blossomed into a major contributor last year scoring eight goals and 10 assists in his first full season with the Rampage. He also played eight games with the team during the second half of the 2015/16 season.

Aguilar, 25, joined the Rampage at the roster freeze last year but made an immediate impact with three goals and two assists in just three games.

Hurwitz and Aguilar join Gordy Gurson, Joshio Sandoval and Brett Petricek as players under contract for 2017/18.

The Rampage had four players called up to the national team player pools of the US and Mexico today. The US National Arena Soccer Team and Mexican National Futbol Rapido team will play three games next week as early preparation for October's WMF World Cup in Tunisia. The two teams met in the finals of the last WMF World Cup in 2015, in which the host United States claimed the trophy.

Gurson, Sandoval and Derek Huffman were part of the 25 player delegation for the US. Angel Curiel will be called on to represent Mexico.

The two national arena teams will face off in Ontario, CA on May 11, Turlock CA on May 12 and Bakersfield, CA on May 13. The US team is coached by San Diego Sockers coach Phil Salvagio and Mexico is coached by Atletico Baja coach Rene Ortiz.

"It's a great honor for our players to earn this kind of recognition to represent their countries and the Rampage on a world stage," said Rampage GM Chris Kokalis. "It would be a tremendous opportunity for them if they are selected to go to Tunisia."
