Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks scored first, but that was it for the offense in a 7-1 loss to Lake Elsinore Sunday at The Hangar. Lancaster is now three games behind the Storm in the South Division with just seven games to play in the First Half.
In the third inning, Lancaster (29-34) used consecutive doubles to get on the board. Carlos Herrera doubled with one out, and Max George followed with another to plate a run.
That was the only run allowed by Lake Elsinore's Ronald Bolaños (2-3) Sunday. The righty pitched seven innings, striking out a season-high eight batters. He lowered his ERA by more than a full run.
Lake Elsinore (32-31) would not let the Lancaster lead last long. The Storm tied the game in the top of the fourth on a Marcus Greene Jr. single. They took the lead for good in the fifth on a two-out Luis Torrens double. Five of Lake Elsinore's six runs came with two outs Sunday.
Matt Dennis (3-7) took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings. The Storm added four more against the Lancaster bullpen to put the game out of reach.
Lancaster's offense went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the loss. The Storm recorded 14 hits for a third-straight game at the Hangar. The JetHawks are now 0-6-1 in their last seven series dating back to the middle of May.
Lake Elsinore remains atop the South Division with the win. Lancaster is now three games back in the standings with seven games to play before the All-Star Break. All seven games are on the road for the JetHawks. The next game at The Hangar is the 2018 California League All-Star Game June 19.
The JetHawks hit the road for four games in San Bernardino. Brandon Gold (5-3) takes the hill in the opener at Inland Empire against Simon Matthews (0-0). First pitch Monday night is at 7:05 pm.
