(Cleveland, OH-April 5, 2009) In a game that had all of the drama that any indoor football fan could possibly want, the Marion Mayhem defeated the Eastern Division leading Fort Wayne Freedom 39-33 in overtime last night at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

A nineteen yard touchdown pass from Tavares Woodley to Maurice Douse in the Mayhem's first overtime possession series ended the game after the Mayhem's defense stopped the Freedom's first series in the extra session.

The Mayhem (3-1) led for the entire game until with just twenty-one seconds remaining, Freedom quarterback Randy Hutchinson connected with wide receiver Brian Jackson from five years to give the visitors their first lead of the game at 32-30.

After the Freedom (3-1) converted the point after, the Mayhem had their work cut out for them, having to march virtually the length of the field with twenty seconds to go. The first two plays yielded nothing, and with time running out, Woodley heaved a desperation pass. The pass was incomplete, but the Freedom were penalized for pass interference. The flag gave the Mayhem a chance to tie, which Eric Schnatz made good on, hitting on a twenty-six yard field goal with no time on the clock.

Tavares Woodley connected on four touchdown passes in the game for the Mayhem, three of which were to wide receiver Ian Schmidt.

The win puts the Mayhem in a first place tie in the Eastern Division with the Freedom.

The Mayhem return to the field next Saturday night when they travel to Hoffman Estates, IL where they will face the Chicago Slaughter at the Sears Center, with kickoff scheduled for 7:05 CST. Coach Pepe Pearson's crew will return to the Coliseum on Saturday night, May 2nd, when they host the Miami Valley Silverbacks at 7:30PM.
