Mammoths Complete the Streak

Maine Mammoths News Release

PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths (7-8) finish the 2018 season with a nice victory over the Jacksonville Sharks (10-6) with a score of 43-36. The Mammoths defeated the Sharks for the first time in team history tonight.

The game went in the Mammoths' favor the second it started. They forced the Sharks to turn the ball over on downs and then scoring right after. Another defensive stop for Maine gives the Mammoths offense the ball at the Jacksonville two-yard line. From there, Bane rushed for a two-yard touchdown. The Sharks got something going as their Quarterback, Patrick McCain completed his first half of the night. They would then score later that drive. It was time for the Sharks defense to step it up since the Mammoths had their fair share of defensive stops. The Sharks would force a safety on the Mammoths to shrink the Mammoths lead to four, as the Mammoths were up 13-9 at this point. On the opening play of the second quarter, the Sharks found the end zone from 24 yards out, then intercepted a pass from Bane. The Mammoths caught a break as their defense held the Sharks to attempt a 60-yard field goal, which was no good. Two touchdowns gave the Mammoths the momentum again, as Defensive Back Keiron Jones intercepted a pass and ran it all the way down the field for a 46-yard touchdown. From this point, the Mammoths and Sharks couldn't do anything and ran the time down. The Mammoths led the game at halftime 27-22.

The Mammoths and Sharks couldn't get anything going in the third quarter until the final few minutes, where Bane threw a touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Devin Wilson from five yards out. The Sharks still had some fight left in them, scoring on the opening play of the fourth quarter to bump the Mammoths lead back to six with a 33-29 score with the Mammoths on top. From here, the Mammoths just needs to finish strong and they will be able to ruin every single team's playoff seeding this season. A Mammoths touchdown, an interception from Sharks Quarterback Patrick McCain, and a good field goal from Mammoths Kicker Renaud Labrecque helped the Mammoths breathe a little bit more with a 43-29 lead over the Sharks. What should have been the final drive of the game, Bane fumbled a bad snap and gave Jacksonville an opportunity to score. The Sharks did just that, scoring a touchdown from 20 yards out. Jacksonville failed to recover their own onside kick, giving the Mammoths the perfect opportunity to move the ball forward to finish the game. On third and goal, Bane went to throw a touchdown, but the ball was intercepted and downed in the end zone. The Sharks were only down by seven with 44 seconds left and with possession. After the presence of the Mammoths defense, McCain threw yet another interception to secure a victory for the Mammoths. The Mammoths would end up winning 43-36.

There is no next Mammoths game in the 2018 season, but the Mammoths did absolutely everything they could do to ruin the playoffs picture for every single team, beating the Columbus Lions twice, the Carolina Cobras once, and the Sharks in the season finale.
