MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced that the team has hired James Wade as assistant coach. Wade will join assistant coach Shelley Patterson on head coach Cheryl Reeve's staff. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"I am excited about the addition of James to our coaching staff," said Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve. "He quickly emerged as the top candidate for this position because of his array of experiences as a player in Europe for 13 years as well as a coach in the WNBA for the San Antonio Stars for the last four seasons. James will make an impact in the areas of in-game strategizing, opponent preparation, and player development. I'm looking forward to working with him and continuing to build on our franchise's success."

Wade joins the Lynx staff after serving as the assistant coach with the Stars since the 2013 season. In 2012, he joined San Antonio as a basketball coaching intern and went on to be hired as an assistant coach in 2013. During his time with the San Antonio, he coordinated the Stars' defense and was responsible for leading individual player development. He also assisted with team development, video breakdown and game planning.

With the Lynx, Wade will assist in the team's scouting efforts, talent evaluation, and player development.

Wade is a dual citizen of France and the United States and played professionally overseas in the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Spain, the Czech Republic and Belgium from 2001-2013.

During the WNBA offseason, Wade has worked for various teams overseas. In 2013, he served as a scout for UMMC Ekaterinburg, which was crowned the FIBA EuroLeague champions. He also served as an assistant coach for Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration (BLMA) during the 2013-14 offseason. The team won the French Championship that season for the first time in club history. In 2014, he was named the head training coach of the Basket Lattes Montpellier Training Center, which works on the development and training of junior players in the BLMA organization.

A 1998 graduate of Kennesaw State University, Wade played two seasons for the Owls, averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.9 assistants and 1.2 steals per game through 56 games. Wade also played collegiately at Chattanooga State College (1995-96) where he averaged 18.6 points, 7.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 steals and played his freshman season at Middle Tennessee State University (1994-95).

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Wade is married to former Stars guard and French national team member Edwige Lawson-Wade. They have one son, James "Jet" Wade III.
