Legends Sweep Weekend Series with Warriors

FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (12-9) swept the weekend series against the Santa Cruz Warriors (10-15) with a 109-106 victory in the final seconds in front of a sold-out home crowd.
The game saw 21 lead changes and 13 ties with both the lead swinging eight points in either direction. Midway through the first the Warriors built up a six-point lead before the Legends went on an 8-0 run to re-gain control. With 10 minutes to play in the half, the Legends took the lead they would carry into the locker room. Shooting 58% in the second, Texas took a 53-50 advantage into the break.
The Legends took their largest lead of the night midway through the third. Brandon Ashley and Tu Holloway combined for 23 points but Darington Hobson and Daniel Nwaelele matched the home team duo and the Warriors took the lead just under three minutes. Santa Cruz held a two-point lead with 3.8 seconds on the clock but Holloway knocked down a buzzer-beater from outside to go into the final quarter up 86-85. The two teams exchanged baskets evenly for the first five minutes before Santa Cruz widened the gap. With 5:48 to play, the Legends faced an eight-point deficit. Manny Harris and Holloway began chipping away, but the Warriors continued to respond. With seconds on the clock, Holloway completed a three-point play to jump ahead, and Ashley sealed the victory with double free throws.
With the win, the Legends take the season series against the Warriors 3-2. Ashley and Holloway grabbed 30 points apiece to lead the team while Ashley also added a game-high 14 rebounds. Harris rounded out the double-digit scoring with 23 points and 4 assists.
Nwaelele led the Warriors with 21 points while Mac Koshwal added the team's only double-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds.
The Legends will return to the court Thursday at 7pm hosting the Bakersfield Jam.
