(MADISON) - The Wisconsin Wolfpack defense stopped Fort Wayne inside the red zone twice in the final three minutes of play to secure a 33-32 victory at the Hartmeyer Arena in Madison Saturday night. The final defensive stop came at the one yard line as time expired. The Wolfpack improve to 4-1 while the Firehawks fall to 2-3 on the season.
Former Wisconsin Badger Kurt Ware recorded 6-1/2 tackles and three sacks, his third consecutive game with multiple sacks. Ware was also credited with the final stop of the game to preserve the victory. Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater standout Derek Brown led all players with nine tackles.
Quincy Hudson, who played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, had five pass breakups and two interceptions. He returned the first interception 25 yards for a touchdown and the second interception took place in the endzone in the final minutes, saving a touchdown.
Former Wisconsin quarterback Matt Schabert went 20-32 passing for 152 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Deqwan Young, new to the team this week, led all receivers with seven catches for 65 yards.
Firehawks starting quarterback Kota Carone-Colors was knocked out of the game in the first half. Mike Whitaker excelled in relief of Colors, passing for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Brandon Williams rushed seven times for 42 yards and one touchdown.
The Wolfpack travel to Villa Park, Ill. next week Saturday to play the winless Chicago Cardinals. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
