Bemidji, Minn. (Shooting Star Casino Field at the Sanford Center) - The Green Bay Blizzard proved to be too much for the Bemidji Saturday night as they defeated the Axemen 55-28.
Green Bay was clicking on both sides of the ball as they posted 275 total offensive yards and only allowing 132 total yards. The Blizzard forced four turnovers, three interceptions and one fumble. Donovan Porterie led the Blizzard with 245 yards passing and four passing touchdowns. Porterie also scored one rushing touchdown. James Walker led Green Bay with 24 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. The leading receiver for the Blizzard was Markeith Summers who brought in seven receptions for 150 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jamie Bender intercepted two passes for the Blizzard defense while kicker Jeff Budzien was 4-4 on field goals and 6-6 on extra points.
The Blizzard led the whole game and the Axemen only scored six points in the second half.
The Axemen were plagued by turnovers and penalties which led to their downfall. Reigning IFL Offensive Player of the Week Dante Perez exited Saturday's game early in the first quarter after he sustained a shoulder injury. Ryan Balentine would go on to play quarterback the rest of the game and he went 4-15 for 22 passing yards and two touchdowns. Mulku Kalokoh led the Axemen with 54 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown while Josh Jarboe led the team with 3 receptions for 26 yards. DJ Foster led Bemidji with two receiving touchdowns. Scooter Rogers had one interception for the Axemen which he returned for 13 yards. Bemidji was penalized nine times for 127 yards.
Bemidji falls to 2-7 while Green Bay improves to 4-4 and is only one game out of second place in the United Conference.
