Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Alex Boshers from the Atlantic League's Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday, completing an earlier trade.

Boshers has been one of the top pitchers in the American Association since debuting as a professional in 2015, and has won 10-plus games in each of the past two seasons. Last year, Boshers was 11-4 with a 3.72 ERA in 18 starts and four relief appearances for the Wichita Wingnuts. The 27-year-old right-hander ranked tied for fourth in the American Association in wins, 20th in ERA, 10th in innings pitched (128.1), and fourth among qualifying pitchers in walks per nine innings (1.54). Boshers allowed three or fewer earned runs in 11 of his 18 starts, and walked one or zero batters in 14 of them. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound Boshers pitched at least six innings in 13 of his 18 starts, including 11 starts of at least seven innings.

During his first full year of professional baseball in 2016, Boshers tied for the American Association lead with 12 wins, while finishing tied for seventh in ERA (3.29), tied for 12th in innings pitched (123.0), and fourth among qualifying starters in walks per nine innings (1.53).

Boshers owns a lifetime 27-11 (.711) record with a 3.46 ERA in 76 games, 37 of them as a starting pitcher. In 309.2 career innings pitched, Boshers has averaged just 1.7 walks per nine innings while allowing only 20 home runs. Boshers helped the Wingnuts reach the playoffs in each of the past three years, including trips to the American Association Championship Series against the Goldeyes in 2016 and 2017.

Thursday's trade completes the January 9th deal in which the Goldeyes sent right-handed pitcher Ryan Chaffee to the Blue Crabs in exchange for future considerations. Boshers was traded from Wichita to Southern Maryland on January 10th in exchange for a player to be named later.

Additionally, the Goldeyes have placed right-handed pitcher Marshall Pautsch on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting his release.

The Goldeyes' spring training roster currently stands at the maximum 28 players.

The Goldeyes and RedHawks continue pre-season action on Friday morning at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, North Dakota. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU, and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca
