Four Hot Rods Make Midwest League East All-Star Roster
June 7, 2017 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - On Wednesday, the Bowling Green Hot Rods received word that four players were voted to the 2017 Midwest League All-Star team and will represent the Eastern Division Roster from June 19-20 at Dow Diamond.
Of the four players, both infielder Miles Mastrobuoni and outfielder Jesus Sanchez were the two players selected to Eastern division starting lineup.
Ranked as the #7 prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays system per MLB.com, Sanchez has lived up to the billing by ranking third in the league with 36 RBI. He also leads the team with 53 hits, 31 runs scored, 4 triples and is tied for the team-lead with seven homers.
Along with Sanchez, Mastrobuoni will start for the Eastern Division at second base. The 21-year-old is hitting a team-best .295 and is second on the team with 25 walks and 26 runs scored. He also swiped eight bases and has played superb defense at both second base and shortstop. Mastrobuoni is making his second straight all-star appearances, as he played in the NY-Penn League Midseason All-Star game with the Hudson Valley Renegades last year.
To round out the trio of position players, first basemen Nathaniel Lowe was selected as a reserve.
Like Mastrobuoni, Lowe is also making his second straight all-star appearance at a different level after being on the NY-Penn League All-Star roster on 2016. The Mississippi State product is hitting .287 with three homers and 27 runs batted in while also leading the team with 10 doubles and 26 walks. Lowe also ranks as the best defensive first basemen in the Midwest League, committing just one error in 39 games.
As the sole pitching representative on the roster, left-handed pitcher Brock Burke will also be representing the Hot Rods in the Midwest League midsummer classic.
With three Hot Rods pitchers already promoted to higher levels this season. Burke headlines the staff with a 6-0 record and a 1.10 ERA in ten games started. Burke helped the Hot Rods toss their only one-hitter of the year on April 13 versus Fort Wayne when he threw six hitless innings against the TinCaps. The 20-year-old southpaw has not given up more than one earned run in any of his starts this year.
Burke is currently tied for the league-lead with six wins. He also ranks third in the league with a 1.10 ERA. Opponents are only hitting .181 against him this season, the third-worst batting average against any starting pitcher in the league.
In the nine seasons of Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball, this is the seventh time that four or more Hot Rods were selected to the Midwest League East All-Star roster. Bowling Green sent a division-high six players last year while racking up a franchise-record nine nods in 2013.
The 2017 Midwest League All-Star Game will take place on June 20 in Midland, MI.
