Former Baltimore Stallions Star Chris Armstrong Takes Offensive Helm

Laurel, MD (October 13, 2008) - Chris Armstrong, former star for the Baltimore Stallions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), has been named Offensive Coordinator of the Maryland Maniacs for the 2009 Indoor Football League (IFL) season.

Armstrong, a Baltimore resident, made his professional debut with the Washington Commandos of the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1990, where he led the team in receptions (37), yards (592) and touchdowns (9). He was also named Second-Team All-Arena League. Armstrong played in the CFL from 1991 through 1999, including two seasons with the Baltimore Stallions (1994-95). He was Baltimore's top receiver and led the '95 Stallions to an 18-3 record and a Grey Cup Championship. While in Baltimore, he totaled 136 receptions, 2,607 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Armstrong earned his first professional coaching position was in 2007 as the Offensive Coordinator of the Chesapeake Tide, where he was instrumental in their Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) playoff run. He held the same position with the Tide in 2008. Armstrong also has coached at three Baltimore high schools (Reginald F. Lewis, Northwestern High School and Mergenthaler Vocational Technical Senior High School) where he held positions including Offensive Coordinator, Receivers Coach and Head Coach.

"Chris' experience at the pro level, both as a player and a coach will serve the organization well," stated Maniacs General Manager John Wolfe, "and we're excited to see the offense he will put on the field in 2009."

The Maniacs, who will call Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland home, are members of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The IFL is a national league based in Omaha, Nebraska with teams in states including New York, Texas, Alaska, and Washington.
