Tri-Cities Fever News Release

Wichita Falls, Texas - The Tri-Cities road trip did not get off to a good start Saturday night falling 44-35 to the Wichita Falls Nighthawks at Kay Yeager Arena.

With the loss, the Fever falls to 2-4 on the season, while Wichita State improves to 4-1 on the year.

The Fever plays at Colorado next Friday night. The Fever beat the Crush 37-34 in Kennewick two weeks ago.

For the sixth straight time this season, the Fever was locked in a battle that went down to the closing minutes. Tri-Cities took the lead at 35-34 with 3:14 left in the third quarter on a 7-yard touchdown reception from Dejay Lester from Hunter Wanket.

But that would the Fever's last score of the game. Tri-Cities was held without a point the final 15 minutes of the game. The Fever's final three possessions of the game ended with a fumble, a missed field goal, and a turnover on downs.

Meanwhile, Wichita Falls got a field late in the third quarter and a touchdown coming with 5:25 remaining in the game, and score the game's final 10 points.

The Fever won about every offensive and defensive category in the game, with the exception of the final score. The Fever had 246 yards of total offense to just 178 for the Nighthawks and forced three turnovers on defense.

But one of the major differences was third-down conversions. The Fever was 7 of 14 for the game, while the Nighthawks were 5 of 6 and did not face a fourth-down in the game.

Tri-Cities held the lead for most of the first half and took a 23-20 lead at halftime after a Steven Wakefield 26-yard field goal.

Wanket was 15 of 36 passing for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Pat McCain came off the bench and was 1 of 2 for 3 yards and a touchdown. Foster led the Fever with seven catches for 72 yards and a score. Dejuan Miller, Rob Brown and Lester all had touchdown catches.

Bradley Njoku helped lead the defense with four tackles, two for-loss. Dee Maggitt Jr. and Boubacar Cissoko each had interceptions in the loss.
