Erickson Leaves RiverKings For AHL's Iowa Stars

SOUTHAVEN --- The RiverKings are proud to announce that Jim Erickson, "The Voice" of the RiverKings has accepted a position with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League. Erickson, the broadcaster and director of media relations for the RiverKings, came to the organization in October of 2004.
Erickson, a native of Braham, MN, has been the voice of the RiverKings for the past three seasons. Prior to joining the RiverKings, Erickson did play by play of high school sports at radio stations in Pine City, MN (WCMP) and Princeton, MN (WQPM) for a combined 14 years.
Erickson's extensive broadcasting background also includes the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, University of Minnesota Women's Hockey, University of Minnesota Baseball and University of St. Thomas Football. Erickson also served as the play by play broadcaster for the Memphis Xplorers of AF2 in 2006.
"I have had a great time and made some very good friends in my three seasons with the RiverKings," Erickson said. "I want to thank the RiverKings organization and the Maddox Foundation for the opportunity to be a part of their family. I also want to thank the fans. I enjoyed being able to describe the action for them the last three years."
This past season Erickson was honored by the Central Hockey League as the CHL Broadcaster of the Year. He also finished first in the broadcaster category in the CHL's Best of the Best poll.
"We are very happy for Jim and wish him all the best," RiverKings Director of Business Operations Dave Mattice said. "Jim has been a fan favorite here and we thank him for sharing his talents with our fans and organization for the past three years."
"I am excited to be moving up to the American Hockey League," Erickson commented. "I look forward to the move to Iowa. This is a great opportunity for me to further my hockey broadcasting career, while also allowing me to move closer to home."
RiverKings fans will no doubt miss Erickson this season. Erickson's last day with the RiverKings will be September 21. Erickson's first broadcast with his new team will be the Stars' first game of the 2007-2008 season, Saturday, October 6 at San Antonio.
