The Canton Charge (9-11), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (10-9), 113-108, for their fourth straight win on Wednesday night in Michigan.
Six Charge players scored in double figures, led by Quinn Cook's 21 points and six assists in 42 minutes. Nick Minnerath scored 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 3-of-5 from three-point range in 36 minutes. John Holland netted 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting and eight boards in 33 minutes. Canton as a team hit a season high for field goal percentage in a game, pouring in 39-of-67 shots for 58%.
After trailing by as many as 12 in the second quarter, the Charge stormed back to take a 59-56 lead. Canton had seven turnovers in the first quarter, but then regrouped to only surrender two in the second while hitting 15-of-24 from the field (63%). First half leaders for Canton included Michael Stockton's 12 points and dishing five assists while Sir'Dominic Pointer netted 11 points and grabbed five boards.
Minnerath scored 17 of Canton's 31 third quarter points on 5-of-6 shooting and 3-of-14 from three-point range. Canton led for the whole period and by as many as 12 and again hit 63% of shots from the field, but a 15-7 run by the Drive to close the third quarter cut their deficit down to 90-86 heading into the fourth.
The Charge held on to their advantage the whole fourth quarter, holding off Grand Rapids on their six separate times of coming within a score. Stockton finished with 18 points and nine assists in 32 minutes. Juvonte Reddic chipped in 11 points and six boards off the bench.
Henry Sims led the Drive with a double-double of 22 points and 13 points. Detroit Pistons assignee Spencer Dinwiddie scored a game-high 25, including going 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.
