Candace Parker Named WNBA Player of the Week

Los Angeles - Sparks forward Candace Parker was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played May 23 through May 29, it was announced today by the WNBA.

The player of the week honor is Parker's first this season, and 16th of her career. The two-time WNBA MVP led the Sparks to two road wins during the week, helping Los Angeles to a 5-0 start to share the top spot (with Minnesota Lynx) in the West.

Through five games, Parker ranks fourth in the WNBA in scoring (20.8 ppg) and seventh in rebounding (7.8 rpg). For the week, she paced all Western Conference players in scoring (24 ppg) and tied for seventh in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and assists (3.5 apg). Behind her 26 points, nine boards, three assists, and two steals, Los Angeles opened its week with a 93-80 win over the Chicago Sky in a nationally televised contest on ESPN2 on May 24. She then followed that with 22 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 77-72 win at the Connecticut Sun on May 26.
