Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have a ten-game winner returning to the rotation in 2013, as club has re-signed RHP Alex Caldera.

Caldera, 27, was 10-4 with a 3.50 ERA in 20 starts for Fargo-Moorhead in 2012. He pitched 123.1 innings and allowed 56 runs (48 earned) on 126 hits. Caldera recorded 88 strikeouts and walked 44 batters. He tied for 5th in the American Association for wins.

Caldera first signed with Fargo-Moorhead in 2011 and was 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA and two saves in 18 games (ten starts). He had his contract purchased by the Florida Marlins in early August of that season and finished the year going 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in six starts for the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League (A).

Caldera began his professional career in 2007 after being selected by the Kansas City Royals organization in the 13th round of the draft out of Chaffey (CA) Junior College. He advanced to the Double-A level with the Royals before being traded to the Washington Nationals organization prior to the 2011 season.

"Alex has proven to be a top of the rotation guy the past two seasons," said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. "He is very steady, throws strikes and gets outs and wins. He's been very good for us and we hope he's ready to have another great year."
