
Bucks assistant lends a hand to high school

Houma, LaâThis time of year marks a down time for many in the National Indoor Football League which leaves a void in the schedules of football crazed players, coaches, and fans.
Not content to wait for the 2005 NIFL season, Bayou Bucks assistant coach C. J. Maiden will take an offensive assistant position with the Abramson High Commodore football team in Eastern New Orleans.
Maiden a former NFL and CFL player has a long legacy of coaching semi pro and minor league football in South Louisiana. Following a playing career with the Naval Academy, Maiden signed as free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. After a stint in the NFL, Maiden moved north of the border to become a player/coach for the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League.
Highlights in Maiden's coaching career include his winning of 4 championships in various leagues. Most recently, Maiden has focused on indoor football with much success. Prior to landing with the Bayou Bucks Maiden coached for the Mississippi (Biloxi) Firedogs of the Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL). During his four year stay with the Firedogs, Maiden won 2 world championships. After leaving Biloxi, Maiden headed down to Houma where he has been a vital part of the Bucks growing success.
The Abramson Commodores play in district 8-5A, and are coming off a 4-6 record in 2003. When asked about his new position Maiden responded, "This is great opportunity for me." Maiden went on to add, "I love the game of football, but most importantly I hope to be a positive role model for the kids."
The regular season for the Commodores is set to begin on Saturday September 4 when they take on the Jesuit Blue Jays at 2:30 at Tad Gormley Stadium.
