Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings defeated the Corpus Christi Sharks 60-35 in front of 5,453 fans at the American Bank Center Saturday night to move their record to 10-5 on the season and to extend their winning streak to a new franchise high six games. The BattleWings jumped out to a 7-0 lead as KR P.J. Berry returned the opening kickoff 58 yards for a touchdown. Nick Gatto gave the Sharks their first points of the night on a 30 yard field goal, but Berry scored again on a 23 yard pass from Andrico Hines to give the BattleWings a 13-3 lead with 4:55 remaining in the 1st quarter. Sharks' QB Sedale Threatt ended the 1st quarter with a 14 yard scoring run to cut the Wings' lead to 13-9, but any optimism from the Sharks would be erased by the BattleWings in the 2nd quarter.
The BattleWings wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter as Andrico Hines hit a wide open Buchie Ibeh in the back of the endzone with 14 minutes remaining in the first half to extended the Wings' lead to 20-9. Less than 7 minutes later, the Wings' were back on offense after LB Dustin Johnson collected his 6th (league leading) fumble recovery of the year. The BattleWings' capitalized on the turnover when Andrico Hines hooked up with WR P.J. Berry on a 24 yard touchdown pass to push the BattleWings' lead to 27-9. The Sharks were able to muster two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, but the Wings' answered back both times with touchdowns of their own. Buchie Ibeh outran his defender for a 40 yard touchdown after Sedale Threatt's second touchdown run of the night. FB Jason Schule answered Anthony Chambers' touchdown run with his league leading 24th rushing touchdown run of the year to give the BattleWings a 39-23 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
The BattleWings began the 2nd half just as they ended the 1st half as FB Jason Schule rumbled in endzone from 2 yards out to give the Wings' a 46-23 lead. WR P.J. compounded the Sharks' woes when he ran 4 yards for his 4th touchdown of the night to increase the Wings' lead to 53-23. The BattleWings' defense was equally dominant in the 3rd quarter as they forced two defensive stops and shut-out the Sharks going into the 4th quarter.
The BattleWings' offense slowed some in the 4th quarter but P.J. Berry found the endzone for the fifth time of the night and FB Jason Schule was able to move within 38 yards of breaking af2's all-time rushing record.
The BattleWings will host the Arkansas Twisters at the CenturyTel Center next Saturday night at 7 PM in a match-up that will determine the 2009 Southwest Division champion. The BattleWings' have unveiled a special ticket price for that game that includes $5 lower bowl (Blue and Gold zone) tickets or 2 for $5 upper bowl tickets.
