Rapid City Flying Aces News Release

Rapid City, SD - Most football fans from Rapid City have never had the chance to watch an NFL Super Bowl live, or meet a famous athlete in person, but this week fans in Rapid City will have that opportunity... not to attend an NFL Super Bowl, but to watch "Bam" Morris. Morris, a former NFL running back, was the leading rusher in Super Bowl XXX and will be facing the number one team in the nation, the Rapid City Flying Aces this Friday night at 7:05pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The time has come for the highly anticipated game versus former NFL Star Bam Morris and the Katy Copperheads from Katy, TX. The Copperheads (3-2) are coming off a 49-21 win over the Arkansas Stars last week.

The Aces are also coming off a big win and remain the number one team in the nation, as they put up a dominating 72-46 performance against the fifth ranked team in the country, the Wyoming Cavalry. The action packed game was filled with excitement and ended with a bench clearing brawl after a late hit by Wyoming in the forth quarter with 28 seconds remaining in the game.

Byron "Bam" Morris is a former NFL running back who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Morris attended Texas Tech where he won the 1993 Doak Walker Award as the top running back in college football. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 91st overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft (3rd round).

During his NFL career, he would record 3,809 yards in 974 attempts and scored 35 touchdowns during 75 games. He also caught 103 passes for 790 yards and one touchdown. He played for the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX gaining 73 yards in 19 carries. Morris has become better known for his off field legal troubles which shortened his NFL career. He has since worked hard, gotten his life straightened out, and the NFL reinstated his eligibility as a player on January 13, 2006. Prior to being reinstated, Morris was signed by the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League. Morris quit Predators training camp the following day stating that he hoped to sign a contract with an NFL team; he then signed with the Katy Copperheads in late February hoping to earn that NFL contract. Morris showcased his skills for the NFL by leading the league in rushing after the first two weeks. He then injured his hamstring in week 3, an injury that forced him to sit out week 4 and limited him to just nine carries last week versus Arkansas. Morris is expected to be fully recovered for this week. Fans don't miss the opportunity to support your Flying Aces as they try to halt "Bam" Morris and the Katy Copperheads this Friday at 7:05pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. For tickets visit or call the Civic Center Box Office at 1-800-GOTMINE.
