Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH - The Grand Rapids Drive, the NBA Affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, will partner with American Heart Association to host a Charitable Jersey Takeover Night on Sat. Mar. 19th as the Drive take on the Delaware 87ers for a 7 pm tipoff at the DeltaPlex Arena.
"The American Heart Association is honored to be highlighted at this game. They are devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke - the two leading causes of death in the world. They team with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases," said Kimberly Earnshaw, Metro Executive Director for the American Heart and American Stroke Association of Greater Grand Rapids.
Players will wear customized Grand Rapids Drive/American Heart Association jerseys that will be auctioned off post-game with all proceeds benefitting American Heart Association. Fans are encouraged to wear red to support this great cause as well as a portion of ticket revenue will be donated back to American Heart Association. There will be a halftime video presentation along with volunteers from the organization staffing a table on the concourse educating fans on the proper CPR techniques.
"An urgent focus of the association is the pending CPR in Schools legislation in Michigan. If every high school student in Michigan learned CPR before graduation, we could add 100,000 more qualified lifesavers in our communities each year," said Earnshaw. "When you realize that 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests occur at home, which means that family members are the people that these kids are most likely to save - a parent, a grandparent or maybe a sibling." Which explains why CPR techniques will be highlighted at the game and why they are an important part of the work of the AHA.
The post-game auction featuring the customized red and white jerseys will provide the top bidder of each jersey an opportunity to have a photo and a meet-and-greet with the selected player. Those interested in purchasing a jersey can bid throughout the game with final call 5 minutes post-game.
