Reno Repels Red Claws' Rally to Wrap NBA D-League Showcase

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Reno Bighorns (12-8) held off the Maine Red Claws (12-8), 123-121, in the final contest of the 2016 NBA Development League Showcase in Santa Cruz, CA.

Reno had three players net at least 20 points, paced by active D-League leading scorer Erick Green's 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting and seven-of-nine from the foul line. Vincent Hunter posted a double-double of 20 points and 18 rebounds with four blocks in 34 minutes. Ricky Ledo scored 21 points in 25 minutes to round out the leading trio. David Stockton added 19 points, nine assists, and two steals for the Bighorns.

Terry Rozier led the Red Claws with 29 points, seven boards, and eight assists in 35 minutes on assignment from the Boston Celtics. His Celtics' teammate Jordan Mickey chipped in a double-double of 18 points and 14 boards with four blocks on assignment. Coty Clarke came off the bench to provide 19 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes.

Both teams traded blows throughout the first quarter with five lead changes and four ties to start. Maine got out in front 36-21 after the first, thanks in part to perimeter shooting, hitting 5-of-10 three-pointers (50%) and scoring 22 points outside of the paint. Reno's Ledo helped pace his team with 10 points in the opening stanza.

Leading 44-41 midway through the second, the Red Claws rolled off a quick 8-0 run by scoring on three straight possessions for their largest lead of the game at 52-41. Maine maintained an advantage throughout the entire second quarter, eventually leading 60-54 at the half behind 14 points each from Clarke and Mickey.

The Bighorns started the half on a 14-4 run to pull ahead 68-68 in what was one of six lead changes with eight ties in the third. Both teams shot over 52 percent overall from the field in the quarter, combining for 60 points. Green scored 13 of Reno's 38 points in the quarter as the game wound up knotted at 92-92 heading into the final frame.

Maine began the fourth on a 13-5 run in the first 2:44 for the largest lead by either team in the second half at 104-97. Reno responded immediately with a 9-2 run, tying the game at 106-106, starting a trend of six lead changes. The final blow came when the Bighorns' Stockton hit two consecutive shots to put his team up 119-116 with 9.8 seconds left. Reno hit all of their free throw attempts down the stretch to stave off a final Red Claws run.

Maine will head back home to host the Canton Charge on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Reno will also be home for their next game against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. PST streaming live on YouTube.
