WHITE PLAINS, October 27, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks announced today that the team has hired Coby Karl and Derrick Alston as assistant coaches.

A veteran of five NBA Development League seasons, Karl began his professional basketball career as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. He would go on to play parts of two NBA seasons (2007-08, 2009-10) with three different teams (Lakers, Cavaliers, and Warriors), also appearing in 122 D-League games for the Los Angeles D-Fenders, Idaho Stampede, and Reno Bighorns. He is one of two players in league history to see action in same-day D-League and NBA games. Karl also played two seasons in the Spanish League as a member of both Joventut Badalona and CB Granada and for three different teams in Italy with Armani Jeans Milano, Fabi Shoes Montegranaro, and Pallacanestro Reggiana. Before making his final return to the NBA D-League in 2014, he signed with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany. Karl played four years at Boise State University and is the son of current Sacramento Kings head coach, George Karl.

Alston joins the Knicks organization after spending the past three seasons as a player development coach with the Houston Rockets. The Bronx native played four years at Duquesne University and was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 in 1994. Selected 33rd overall in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, Alston spent two seasons with the team (1994-1996) and signed with the Atlanta Hawks prior to the 1996-97 season. Alston played two games with the Hawks in 1996 before moving overseas, spending the next 15 years playing for 13 different teams across six countries. The highlight of his overseas career came in 1999, when he helped his team, FCB Barcelona, capture the Spanish League title while also taking home the Finals MVP award.

The Westchester Knicks tip-off the 2015-16 NBA Development League season at home on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Westchester County Center.
