RGV Vipers to Retire CJ Watson's Jersey

HIDALGO, Texas, October 11, 2015 - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers today announced that the team will retire former Vipers guard CJ Watson's #32 jersey. The ceremony will take place prior to the start of the Houston Rockets versus Orlando Magic preseason contest tonight at State Farm Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CST).
Watson (guard, 6-2, 175, Tennessee) was selected fifth overall by RGV in the 2007 NBA D-League Draft and received the Vipers' first GATORADE Call-Up from the Golden State Warriors. The call-up also marked the 100th NBA D-League player to be called up to a NBA franchise. Watson is one of nine Vipers players to score 40-plus points. He led the team with 42 points at Austin on Jan. 5, 2008. He recorded eight steals on Dec. 7, 2007 at Sioux Falls to become the team's all-time steals leader. Watson also represented the Vipers at the 2008 NBA D-League All-Star Game.
Watson signed with the Orlando Magic on July 9, 2015. In the 2015 NBA preseason, Watson scored 5 points and 5 assists versus Charlotte on Oct. 3. He scored 2 points and 6 assists at Miami on Oct. 7. In both preseason appearances, he led the Magic in assists.
Following two seasons with the Golden State Warriors (2008-10), Watson also played with the Chicago Bulls (2010-12), Brooklyn Nets (2012-13) and Indiana Pacers (2013-15).
Watson played at Tennessee from 2002-06 and finished his collegiate career as the Volunteer's second all-time leader in assists (577), second in steals (198), sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.396) and tied eighth in three-point field goals (401).
