October 6, 2015 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Birmingham Barons starting second baseman, Joey DeMichele, was recently named as the Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipient by Minor League Baseball and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc.

During the 2015 season, DeMichele registered a .985 fielding percentage in 135 games. The fourth year pro out of Arizona State University recorded 665 total chances and was part of 91 double plays. DeMichele, 24, was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the third round in 2012.

"I have worked hard at being a strong defender," said DeMichele, "and one that my team can depend on every game. I never expected to be individually recognized like this so it has been a great surprise. I am very grateful to be among the 9 players honored for their defense this season."

Birmingham's 1B Danny Hayes added to the strong defensive right side of the infield by having the highest fielding percentage, .995, at his position in the Southern League.

The Barons open the 2016 season April 7th on the road in Jacksonville, Florida while the 2016 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday April 12 versus the Tennessee Smokies.
