Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

(Urbandale, IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that first-year forward Georgy Gorodetsky has been selected to play for the Russian U20 National Team at this month's Subway Super Series event in Canada. Gorodetsky, and the Russian team, will play six games across various sites from Nov. 10th -Nov. 20th against All-Star teams comprised of players from Canada's Major Junior Leagues.

"This is a great honor for Georgy and something we're all excited about" says Buccaneers' head coach Dave Allison. "He is a great talent which is why we wanted to get him here before the start of the season. We'll all be rooting for him."

Gorodetsky is in his first Junior A season and in 11 games has 8-points (2 goals, 6 assists). The native of Yekaterinburg, Russia came to the United States in time for the 2011-2012 season and enrolled at Minnesota's Shattuck St. Mary's. He spent two years at Shattuck before playing Tier I Elite Level Midget Hockey in Michigan with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U18 team.

He was selected by Cedar Rapids with their first round pick in the Phase II draft last May but acquired by the Buccaneers via a trade in late September.

Des Moines is back home for a pair of games this weekend Friday against Fargo and Saturday versus Lincoln. Both games start at 7:05pm. Friday night is $1 Pop and Popcorn Night while Saturday is Military Appreciation Night with $8 tickets available to all military members and their families.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are in their 35th anniversary season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
