(Saint John, NB): The bridge has been established. Evan Roberts a 6'1 guard from Simonds High School in East Saint John, and a former MillRats Elite Basketball Club member in 2012, has been invited to attend the Mill Rats training camp this month.
MillRats Elite was founded in 2012 to give area youth a vehicle to develop their basketball skills and broaden their opportunities in life. Roberts has been playing summer basketball with previous Mill Rats players such as Anthony Anderson, PJ Young, Steve Deluca, Mike Anderson, Damian Gay, and Modibo Diarra.
Peter Wedge Returns
Peter Wedge returns to training camp after finishing last season on the roster. Wedge is a 6'8 small forward whose forte is three point shooting. Last season in limited action he averaged 2.0 points per game in 3 games. He played at Saint John High during his high school career.
"These guys both love basketball and it shows," explained Mill Rats President & General Manager Ian McCarthy. "They want to be part of something special which is what I think they see in this season ."
Dane Smith Returns
6'2 Canadian shooting guard Dane Smith from Toronto has also been re-signed by the Mill Rats and will be in training camp.
Smith averaged 3.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 19 games last season. His highlight of the year no doubt came when he helped the Mill Rats rally to defeat the eventual champion Windsor Express 101-95 at the WFCU Centre. Smith led a depleted roster of 5 remaining players in the fourth quarter with 14 points.
