Bisons Add RHP Scott Copeland, INF Ryan Goins

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP SCOTT COPELAND has been promoted to the club from Double-A New Hampshire. Copeland will start for the Herd tonight as they open up a four-game series with the Norfolk Tides (7:05 p.m.).

This will mark Copeland's Triple-A debut. The Bisons also announced that INF RYAN GOINS has been activated after being optioned by Toronto. The Blue Jays selected the contract of Bisons LHP BRAD MILLS and INF KEVIN NOLAN has also been transferred to Double-A New Hampshire.

COPELAND, 26, has spent the entire 2014 season at New Hampshire and leads the Fisher Cats in starts (21), innings pitched (133.2 IP) and strikeouts (86). He also ranks second on the club in wins (8) with an 8-7 record and a 3.70 ERA in 26 total games with the club (133.2 IP, 132 H, 46 BB). Copeland has been especially tough of late, posting a 3-0 record and a 1.59 ERA in five starts since the All-Star Break (34.0 IP, 24 SO). He matched a season-high with eight innings in his last outing, a 3-1 win in Erie last Wednesday (7 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 SO).

Originally a 21st round selection of the Baltimore Orioles, Copeland was signed as a free agent in 2012. He spent all of last season with Dunedin (A) of the Florida State League and was 9-8 with a 3.74 ERA (146.2 IP, 99 SO).

GOINS has played 79 games for the Bisons this season with a .285 average, 14 doubles, two triples, 27 RBI and 28 runs scored. He had 10 multi-hit performances in 19 games in July before receiving a July 22nd promotion to Toronto. Goins has not committed an error in his last 50 games for the Bisons.

MILLS has made three starts with the Bisons and is 1-0 with a 3.14 ERA (14.1 IP, 12 SO). Nolan has hit .239 (17-71) with three RBI in 21 games with Buffalo.
