Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LAST NIGHT'S WIN: The Chasers put up 16 runs, the third highest run total of the season, in a series opener win against the Sky Sox. Omaha has won nine of their last ten road series openers (and seven straight roadtrip openers). Since dropping the first two games of the season series with Colorado Springs, Omaha has outscored the Sky Sox 39-13 in four straight wins.
PEGUE-ROLLING: In his last 12 games since his 0-for-5 with 5 strikeouts performance, Carlos Peguero is batting .356 (16-for-45) to raise his average from .238 to .256. In that span, he is tied for the most homers (6) and RBI (15) in the league while racking up the most extra-base hits (10) and total bases (38). Peguero has racked up 13 of his 19 home runs this season in his 41 road games, and has 35 of his 54 RBI (which ranks second on the team) away from Werner Park.
ORLANDO MAGIC: Paulo Orlando is one of three PCL players with at least 129 hits this season, and with his next hit he will reach 130 hits in a season for only the second time in his career. His highest hit total in his nine-year career was 136 he had with Winston-Salem and Wilmington in 2008. Orlando is two steals away from his career high of 29 (set in 2006 and 2008).
GOING GOING JANISH: In his three games at Colorado Springs this season, Paul Janish has seven hits in 12 at-bats (.583). Added to his .270 average (27-for-100) in 35 home games while he was with Colorado Springs earlier this season, Janish is batting .304 (34-for-112) at Security Service Field, while posting an average of .223 (40-for-179) in any other ballpark this year.
HIT MERRIFIELD: Whit Merrifield has reached base in 45 of his 50 starts for Omaha this season, and since he joined the league on June 7 he leads the PCL with 78 hits (80 hits once his two from July 12 become official today). He has 22 multi-hit games, but none vs Colorado Springs.
SWEEPS AT THE SPRINGS: With a win in the completion of the July 12 suspended game today, Omaha would notch sweeps in both of the three-game series they have ever played in Colorado Springs (the other in 2003). Omaha is now 52-27 all-time at Security Service Field.
BRINGIN THE PENA: With his home run yesterday, Francisco Pena is now tied for the second most homers in the PCL trailing Adam Duvall's 26. The blast also tied him for the most home runs ever by an Omaha catcher as Russ McGinnis also hit 24 homers for Omaha in 1994. Brett Hayes last season became the first catcher in team history to lead in homers (with 17).
CHECK THE RECORD: Johnny Giavotella has raised his average from .280 to .290 in four games with four straight multi-hit games (leads Omaha with 35 multi-hit games in 2014). Giavotella is one hit away from tying Joe Vitiello (1994-99) for 7th most all-time in team history at 480.
