Washington, D.C. (January 16, 2014) - D.C. United today announced that the club has selected University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) midfielder Victor Munoz with the 29th overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. United acquired the pick from the Montreal Impact for an international roster spot.

Originally from Madrid, Spain, Munoz began his college career at Iona where he was named the 2010 MAAC Rookie of the Year. After transferring to UCLA, the midfielder was voted UCLA's Rookie of the Year and ranked second on the team, and in the Pac-12, with eight assists and was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention. In 2012, he appeared in 14 games (10 starts) and scored one goal to go with five assists. In his senior season, Munoz was named Second Team All-Pac-12 and once again tied for the team lead with eight assists.

"We are excited to select a soccer player with Victor's pedigree," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. "He has played in Real Madrid's youth academy and for the Spain U-15, U-16 and U-17 National Teams, and he is coming off a great career at UCLA."
