December 26, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Portland Thunder News Release

PORTLAND, OR - Portland Thunder defensive end Jake McDonough has signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Thursday. Portland will place McDonough on the Arena Football League's Other League Exempt List. Should McDonough return to the AFL, his contract with the Thunder will resume.

"It's great anytime one of our players has an opportunity at the NFL level because it shows that we are recruiting the most talented athletes," said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. "We are proud of Jake and wish him the best as he enters the next step in his pro football career."

Portland originally acquired McDonough (6-5, 305, Iowa State) on October 31, 2013. At Iowa State, he played in 40 career games and totaled 89 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and three pass breakups. As a senior in 2012, he earned All-Big 12 first-team honors and was named Iowa State's Defensive Lineman of the Year after finishing the season with 36 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. McDonough signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent and attended training camp with the team earlier this year.

The Portland Thunder will kick off its inaugural season at the Moda Center on Monday, March 17th when they take on the San Jose SaberCats. Season tickets are available for purchase starting as low as $99 by calling 503-773-4AFL or by visiting PortlandAFL.com.
