Portland Thunder News Release

PORTLAND, OR - The Portland Thunder announced today that the franchise has acquired veteran nose guard Darrell Campbell from the Arizona Rattlers in exchange for future considerations. Campbell, 33, brings five seasons of Arena Football experience to Portland's roster.

"Darrell is one of the top nose guards in this league and it's exciting anytime you're able to add a player of his caliber," said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. "His experience is also invaluable to our young roster and I expect him to make a significant impact, both with his play and with his leadership."

During a standout college career at Notre Dame, Campbell (6-4, 315, Notre Dame) started three seasons at defensive tackle for the Irish, where he registered career totals that included 86 tackles, 11 sacks, and 22.5 tackles for loss. He signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2004 before joining the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006.

Campbell entered the Arena Football League in 2008 and delivered 19 tackles with 1.5 sacks as a rookie with the Orlando Predators. After the AFL season, Campbell returned to the NFL for a training camp stint with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 2009.

In 2011, Campbell returned to the Arena Football League and enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Philadelphia Soul, racking up nine sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He joined the Chicago Rush the following year, where he contributed 3.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss over two seasons. Campbell most recently landed with the Arizona Rattlers during the AFL's offseason reassignment process in September.

The Portland Thunder will kick off its inaugural season at the Moda Center on Monday, March 17th when they take on the San Jose SaberCats. Season tickets are available for purchase starting as low as $99 by calling 503-773-4AFL or by visiting PortlandAFL.com.
