St. Charles Chill Signs Two

September 17, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) St. Charles Chill

St. Charles, Mo. - The St. Charles Chill added some significant size and experience to their inaugural roster today when Head Coach and General Manager Jamie Rivers signed defenseman Steve Makway (6-5, 230) and winger Riley Emmerson (6-8, 250).

Makway will begin his seventh season in the Central Hockey League and his ninth season in professional hockey that included a stop with the Missouri River Otters during the '05-'06 season in the United Hockey League. In 523 career games Makway has amassed 60 goals and 225 assists while logging 1450 penalty minutes.

Emmerson was drafted in the 7th round (199th overall) by the Minnesota Wild in 2005 and spent last season with the Missouri Mavericks playing in 55 games, scoring five goals and adding an assist to go with 95 penalty minutes.

The size of these two players is what stands out on paper, but Jamie Rivers says they will add more than a physical presence.

"These guys are veterans. Emmerson knows this league and the fans will love his blue collar work ethic; he'll go to the corners and crash the net, do the dirty things we need done up front. As for Makway, yeah, he's that intimidating presence we need to lock down our own end but he has a nice slap shot we'll certainly utilize on the point."

The Chill will begin their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League on October 19th at the Family Arena with a FREE preseason game October 11th. Season tickets are currently on sale now and start at under $10 per game (33 home games).
