Western New York Flash News Release

Elma, N.Y. (Monday, June 17, 2013) - The Western New York Flash will end a four-game road trip on Wednesday when they head to Chicago to face the Red Stars. The game will kick-off at 7:30 ET (6:30 local time), and will pit the two teams against each other for the second time in less than a month.

The Flash are riding a six-game unbeaten streak, posting five wins, including two-consecutive shutouts, and a draw over the span. In that time, Western New York has outscored opponents 13-5 and has not allowed a goal over the last 206 minutes.

On Saturday, the Flash posted a 2-0 win at Washington with Veronica Perez and Vicki DiMartino tallying for the team. The two players were tabbed to start in the game as the Flash were without Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd and Samantha Kerr who were all on National team duty. Wednesday will look similar, as Wambach and Lloyd remain with the USWNT in preparation for New Zealand on June 20th.

Both goals were scored in the first half, as the Flash got off 10 shots in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, the game turned into a test for the Flash defense as the attack was held without a shot. But the team stood tall, and added another clean slate to its repertoire.

Chicago is coming off its third win of the season, knocking off FC Kansas City 3-1 on Sunday. The Blues scored their lone goal just three minutes in, but Chicago responded with three-straight for the win. Inka Grings and Ella Masar scored on both sides of the half to go up 2-1 before Sonja Fuss put the game away with a penalty kick in injury time.

While the Flash will be without Wambach and Lloyd, the Red Stars will also be without two players as Erin McLeod and Carmelina Moscato were both called-up to the Canadian National Team for its game against Germany. That game, in Germany, will also be on June 19th. The American side faces the Korea Republic on June 20th at Red Bull Arena in a rematch of the USA's 4-1 friendly win on June 15th. Wambach enters the game with 156 international goals, just two shy of tying the all-time mark set by Mia Hamm.

On May 24th, in the first meeting between Western New York and Chicago, the Flash came away with a 2-1 win. After trailing 1-0, defender Brittany Taylor mounted a Flash comeback as she set-up scores by both Wambach and McCall Zerboni.

After opening the season with just one point in the first three games, the Flash (5-2-2, 17 points) have bolstered their league standing with 16-straight points and now sit in third place in the NWSL. The Red Stars (3-5-2, 11 points) also opened their season slowly and, like the Flash, are riding a hot-streak as the team has notched nine of its 11 points over the last four games.

Fans can watch the game on YouTube or follow along at the Official Flash Twitter page using the hashtags #WNYF, #CRSvWNYF, and #NWSL.

The Flash return to their home pitch on Sunday, hosting Seattle in "A Pit Stop for Camp Good Days". Partnering with Watkins Glen to promote Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen, the Flash will sport one-of-a-kind jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game. All proceeds will go to Camp Good Days and Special Times. The first 500 fans at the game will also receive two complimentary tickets to Six Hours of the Glen, while fans under-15 can register to participate and win prizes in the halftime event.
