Strikers Would Host FC Dallas with Open Cup Win on Tuesday, May 21

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 15, 2013) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have announced they will host their second round match in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Laredo Heat at Lockhart Stadium on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. A victory would propel the Strikers into the Open Cup's third round to host FC Dallas on Tuesday, May 28 at Lockhart Stadium.
Tickets for the Strikers' opening match in the tournament on May 21 are on sale now through the team's web site at www.strikers.com or by calling the Strikers ticket office at 954-404-0600. The Laredo Heat of the PDL won their first round match, 2-0, against PSA Elite on Tuesday, May 14.
The US Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the country and is open to all US Soccer Federation affiliated teams, from amateur adult club teams to the professional clubs of the NASL and MLS.
The tournament's first round took place on Tuesday, May 14. The six, domestically based NASL teams join in the second round on May 21, and the 16 domestically based MLS teams join in the third round on May 28. The home teams for the third round pairings were determined by a blind draw on Wednesday, May 15. The blind draw will also be in place for the fourth round, which is the first round two NASL teams could potentially face one another.
The Strikers have participated in six Open Cups in franchise history. Their best finish was making it to the round of 16 twice, once in 2008 and again in 2010. In 2010, the team was led by Paulo Jr. who was tied for the tournament lead with five goals.
