Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
TAMPA, Fla. (May 15, 2013) -- The Tampa Bay Rowdies will host Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders FC in the third round of the 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, pending the result of the Rowdies second round match at VSI Tampa Bay FC this Tuesday.
If the Rowdies defeat VSI Tampa Bay FC this Tuesday, May 21, they will host the Sounders on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. Seattle has won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011, while losing last year's edition in the final to Sporting Kansas City in penalty kicks.
Stressing that his side must first address their Second Round game, Rowdies coach Ricky Hill said: "We are looking forward to meeting VSI on Tuesday night. There is a prize for getting a win in the second round and that is facing the Seattle Sounders. We know we first have to beat VSI before we can think of a potential Round Three match against the Sounders."
The Rowdies will face VSI Tampa Bay FC (USL) in the second round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup this Tuesday, May 21 at Plant City Stadium at 7:30 p.m. VSI reached the second roundafter they advanced on penalty kicks, 5-3 over Orlando City U23s. VSI and Orlando were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
The remaining five North American Soccer League teams participating in the 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will also be facing MLS opponents if they are able to navigate through their second round games.
