Published on May 6, 2013 under Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
The Western Hockey League announced today that Edmonton Oil Kings' forward Stephane Legault is the Denny's WHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 5, 2013.
Legault picked up four points, all assists, while posting a +4 rating over three games in the past week as the Oil Kings managed a 2-1 record in three post-season contests.
On Tuesday, April 30th, Legault tallied an assist on the game-winning goal to help the Oil Kings defeat the Calgary Hitmen 2-0 in Game 7 of the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series. On Friday, May 3rd, Legault chipped in three assists and posted a +3 rating while earning 1st Star honors in a 4-1 victory over the Winterhawks in Portland in Game 1 of the WHL Championship series. Legault was held off the score sheet in a 3-0 loss to the Winterhawks on Saturday, May 4th, in Portland.
Legault, a 19-year-old product of Edmonton, AB, is in his third full season in the WHL with the Oil Kings. He currently sits tied for fourth among all WHL players in post-season scoring with 22 points in 18 games, and is tied for second among WHL players with 16 assists. The 5'11", 179-lb forward is now a two-time recipient of Denny's WHL Player of the Week honors in the 2013 WHL Playoffs, having earned the honor in the first week of the post-season. Legault was selected by the Oil Kings in the seventh round, 136th overall, in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Western Hockey League has also nominated Laurent Brossoit of the Edmonton Oil Kings for the CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Brossoit, a product of Surrey, B.C., posted a 2-1 record with a shutout in three starts over the past week for the Oil Kings as they closed out the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series versus Calgary and opened the 2013 WHL Championship series versus Portland. The 19-year-old netminder stopped 94 of 98 shots he faced over three games for a 1.33 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage in that span. Brossoit is a Calgary Flames prospect
